The Vault - From Our Archive Enduring Quality. Timeless Material.

There are projects that photograph beautifully on the day of completion, and then there are those that only grow more extraordinary with time. The works held in The Vault are the latter; a curated collection of Briggs Veneers’ most historic and celebrated projects, drawn from decades of supply to some of Australia’s finest architects, designers, and makers. These are the projects that remind us why natural timber remains unmatched as a material of lasting beauty and enduring quality.

Apartment in the Cross — James Allen Architect Potts Point, Sydney

Designed by James Allen Architect and built by Matt Boers Constructions, this bespoke media cabinet is a study in material contrast and compositional mastery. Two of the most characterful timbers in the Briggs collection; Ash Burl and Forest Red Gum, are brought together in a single piece of furniture that reads more like a collected artwork than a functional cabinet.

The Ash Burl swirls with organic complexity, its four-way matched grain radiating outward from a central point in a jewel-like kaleidoscopic pattern: the kind of figure that can only be found in timber, and only in the rarest logs at that. Against it, Forest Red Gum brings a different kind of drama entirely: deep, rich, and intensely Australian in character, its heartwood ranging from warm ochre to a burnished reddish-brown that deepens with age and light exposure. Together, the two species create a visual conversation that is at once ancient and utterly contemporary.

This is what timber does that no other material can replicate, it carries time within it. The grain of these veneers tells the story of decades of growth, of seasons and stress and survival, pressed into a surface that will only continue to tell that story long after the project is complete.

On Limited Stock & Rare Species

Forest Red Gum is not a veneer you will find in our standard catalogue. Neither, for that matter, is much of what lives in The Vault.

At Briggs Veneers, we have spent 118 years building relationships with suppliers, brokers, and log merchants across Australia and the world, and over that time, we have quietly accumulated a collection of rare, exotic, and limited-batch veneers that never make it to the ranges offered on the website. Small runs of material, single flitch lots, species that come through once and may not come through again. Forest Red Gum, Myrtle Burl, Zebrano, Anegre, Sapele, Maple, Ancient Kauri. These timbers come with stories as extraordinary as their grain.

If you are looking for something rare, something specific, or something that simply doesn’t exist on a product page, contact us. The Vault is not a catalogue, it is a conversation. Tell us what you are looking for, and there is every chance we already have it waiting.
