Sheldon Interiors’ new Sydney headquarters at 60 Carrington Street is as much a showcase of craft and capability as it is a workplace – a bold statement of what considered design and honest materiality can achieve in a contemporary commercial environment. Targeting a 5 Star Green Star and Gold WELL rating, every material and detail was selected with both performance and purpose in mind.
At the heart of the fitout, the 16-person boardroom sets the tone for the entire office. Briggs Veneers’ American Walnut, quarter cut and joined in a deliberate mismatch pattern, lines the joinery and wall panelling with a rhythm and movement that feels at once timeless and distinctly contemporary. The deep, warm tones of the American Walnut bring an undeniable sense of gravitas and natural warmth to a space designed to leave a lasting impression – while the mismatch join forgoes the expected symmetry of a traditional bookmatched arrangement in favour of something more dynamic. The result is a surface that moves: a continuous, shifting grain that creates visual vibrancy and a quiet architectural energy across the full length of the room. It is a material choice that speaks to Sheldon’s broader design philosophy: that the best commercial interiors don’t simply perform – they resonate.
