A Hidden Timber Treasure Box in Newtown 

Tucked gently away from the vivid, bustling energy of King Street in Newtown, Sydney, hides a timber-clad architectural gem. Like a hidden treasure box, this residence offers a serene escape, where the city’s pulse softens into a sanctuary of light and texture.

The design is defined by a brilliant infusion of natural light, which streams into the interior spaces to provide a beautiful reflection of the lush greenery surrounding the building. On the exterior, the facade engages in an interplay of “hide and seek” vignettes, lending a playful but austere sense of character to the overall form.

Inside, the material palette is a masterclass in balance. Briggs Beyond Airlie Oak serves as the project’s foundation, providing the warmth of natural American Oak with a decidedly more visually playful nature. These timber tones harmonize beautifully with the striking Rose-colored natural marble and sleek stainless steel accents. It is a sophisticated dance of hard and soft materials, creating a home that is as intellectually compelling as it is viscerally warm.
